Melissa LaRosa,B.S., Counseling Coordinator, is a doctoral student in the Counseling Psychology program. Melissa responds to requests for individual counseling, coordinates the support and discussion groups offered through the Women’s Center, and maintains current information about campus and community resources for referrals. She also facilitates workshops on campus and in the community.

Breastfeeding Mothers’ Support Group begins February 12
A free support group for breast-feeding mothers returning to school or work will meet the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at noon in the Women’s Center, 338 Nebraska Union. Led by Jenny Maestas, an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant at MilkWorks, and Kacey Nelkin Pedersen, Staff Council chair for the Chancellor’s Commission on the Status of Women, this group is open to students, staff, and faculty at UNL. Participants may attend while pregnant or after the baby is born. Conversations will center around breastfeeding, motherhood, and returning to school or work. Nursing babies welcome! Student Parent Support Group
his is a free weekly emotional support group for undergraduate and graduate students with children at UNL. The group will begin meeting at the beginning of March and will meet for five sessions in the Women’s Center. We will focus on processing emotions related to school and parenting as well as learn some techniques for managing stress and negative emotions. We will also provide education regarding community resources that may be useful to students with children. Latina Discussion Group
This is a weekly support and discussion group for Latina students at UNL. Come meet and connect with other Latina students on campus and discuss a variety of topics. Sister Circle: A Support Group for Women of Color
This is a weekly support and discussion group for women of color. It's based on an empowerment model for building an extended network of supportive friends and colleagues. No registration required. Women in STEM
A biweekly discussion and support group which meets every other Friday, 11:00am to 12:00pm. Meet and connect with other women enrolled in stem fields to discuss a variety of topics and network in a casual environment. There will be occasional presentations from industry, faculty, members and others. Registration is not required, but is encouraged if you would like to present.
